NORTH PROVIDENCE –
Mayor Charles Lombardi fired
veteran Public Works Director
Glenn Corrente last Friday
after Corrente had another
run-in with someone following
questions raised about the con-
dition of town parks.
Lombardi said Corrente's
behavior displayed in an
email exchange with The Breeze
angered him all over again and
was the "icing on the cake" in
ending a North
Providence
career that fea-
tured a number
of issues with
residents.
"He's been
confrontational
with taxpayers
and this is just a culmination of
events," said Lombardi. "I've
got a town to run and I'm not
going to let anyone get in my
way."
Chief of Staff Dick Fossa
delivered the news to Corrente
last Friday. Corrente, who
began in North Providence
shortly after Lombardi became
mayor seven years ago, did not
return a call for comment.
Corrente's latest prob-
lem began with The Breeze's
story last week about former
Town Council member Joe

NORTH PROVIDENCE
– Dino Autiello, the likely
new president of the North
Providence Town Council,
now says he believes final
authority on spending of the
police department's $60 mil-
lion Google windfall should
stay with the mayor, and not
the council.
In quite the twist, Autiello
told The Breeze he has long
been in favor of keeping the
final spending decisions in
the hands of the mayor. The
announcement appears to
create a new 4-3 majority in
favor of keeping final spend-
ing power with the mayor
and freeing
up the Google
funds once a
new council
is sworn in in
January.
The thought
among many
was that
Autiello would
be the key vote in favor of
giving the council final say
instead of the mayor, poten-
tially delaying spending for
months or years.
Autiello said he voted with
five other council members
back in the spring to hire an
outside attorney to investi-
gate the matter because he
wanted to see the outcome
