VALLEY BREEZE LIVING EDITION | JUNE 7-13, 2018 ENTERTAINMENT 5 R.I. native Daryl Sherman takes the stage at Chan's June 16 WOONSOCKET – Rhode Island native and Manhattan-based jazz pianist Daryl Sherman will return to Woonsocket to perform at Chan's Fine Oriental Dining on Saturday, June 16. While Sherman is a fixture on the Manhattan jazz circuit, her roots are in Woonsocket, where her father, trombonist Sammy Sherman, inau- gurated the jazz series at Chan's. She returns yearly to share her jazz music and vocals on the hometown stage alongside various musical guests. She recently released her new album, "Lost in a Crowded Place." This year, she will be joined by fel- low New York-based jazz tenor sax player Houston Person in a rare guest appearance. Person has made count- less recordings with jazz luminaries and co-leads a well-known group along with singer Etta Jones. "Houston has a relaxed individual style that coaxes the best out of good solid melodies and blues. It makes his listeners feel warm and happy," said Sherman. She will also be joined by Boston- based guitarist Gray Sargent and bassist Marshall Wood, who will be taking the day off from touring with Tony Bennett to join the duo at Chan's. According to Sherman, the evening will present a very special teaming for her hometown Rhode Island friends and jazz fans.
