24 OBITUARIES JUNE 7-13, 2018 | VALLEY BREEZE | NORTH SMITHFIELD BLACKSTONE WOONSOCKET EDITION Donald E. Nichols Donald E. Nichols, 68, of Ashford, Conn., formerly of Woonsocket, passed away peacefully on May 25 at Trinity Health Center, Woonsocket. He is the husband of 47 years of Rita C. (Savoie) Nichols. He was born in Woonsocket on Nov. 26, 1949, the son of the late Vincent and Cecilia (Beaudry) Nichols. He is the father of Katherine M. Mazzola and her husband, Daniel, of Bellingham, Mass., Lisa R. Boucher-Bowen of Coventry, and Brian Nichols of Brooklyn, Conn. He leaves six grandchildren Jeremy Mazzola, Julia Mazzola, Corey Boucher, Kylie Bowen and Brian's two sons. He is the brother of Robert Nichols of Pawtucket, Gloria Menard of Cumberland, Sharon Smith of Pascoag, Jo-Ann Nichols of Pawtucket, Gail Curran of Arizona, and the late Richard Nichols and Lorraine Gay. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. Donald was a resident of Ashford, Conn., and formerly of West Virginia, and Woonsocket where he was raised. He had worked at Electric Boat, ACS Industries, GAF and Stanley Woolen. He was a United States Army Vietnam War Veteran and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a member of the United Motorcycle Riding Club of Woonsocket. Donald was an auto- motive enthusiast and enjoyed car- pentry, he was a "Jack-of-all-trades." Donald will be greatly missed by his family. Funeral service will be held today, Thursday, June 7, at 11 a.m., at the Chapel at Resurrection Cemetery, 259 West Wrentham Road, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Hilarity for Charity (hilarityforcharity.org) an organiza- tion which helps families of those afflicted with Alzheimer's by contrib- uting to care & research.
