WATER DAMAGE Second only to wind and hail damage, water damage claims are the second most frequent insurance claim. While rates of incidence of other causes of damage have remained fairly consistent, or have even decreased, the percentage of claims with water damage has continued to rise. With all this in mind, it is important that policyholders understand that homeowners insurance does not cover water damage related to unresolved maintenance issues, water backup from an outside sewer or drain, or floods. Nor will a homeowners policy replace or repair the source of the water damage, such as a broken dishwasher or washing machine. Generally speaking, a homeowners policy will cover water damage that occurs suddenly and accidentally, not gradually. Most homeowners insurance policies help cover water damage if the cause is sudden and accidental. An example would be if your drywall is ruined after your water heater ruptures. Gradual water damage is usually not covered. If the reason for the damage is not sudden and accidental, then you may be denied in a claim. To learn more about coverage, please call HUNTER INSURANCE, INC. at 769-9500. Our office is located at 389 Old River Rd., Lincoln. Note: When purchasing a homeowners policy, carefully review the wording that spells out exactly what the insurance company will, and will not, cover. 401-737-4581 Go online today!
