The Comets posted a 6-0 record that saw them outscore their opponents by a 31-12. In the playoffs on May 27, the Comets took a 4-3 thriller with the Cumberland Comets White team in the quarterfinals, posted a 2-0 victory over the host Franklin Fury in the semifinals, and rolled to an 8-4 win over the Dighton Dirt Dogs in the title game. The members of the team are, in front, Erin Bessette; in second row, Julia Raymond, Caitlin Flynn, Caroline Lanzi, Lacie Grenier, and Lindsay Molis; in third row, Julia Emery, Jillian Ryone, Jayden Perlman, and Campbell Feather; in back, coaches Kevin Flynn, Bryan Ryone, and Elise Lanzi. Cumberland Comets Blue U12 softball team captures Franklin Memorial Day tournament BREEZE PHOTO BY ERIC BENEVIDES Lincoln resident ALI BLANCHARD, a pitcher/first base- man on the Moses Brown School softball team, was named the 2017-18 Gatorade R.I. Softball Player of the Year, which is presented annually to the top high school player in the state. Blanchard, who will continue her athletic career at Princeton University, helped lead the Quakers to a first-place record of 14-2 and a berth in Wednesday after- noon's winners' bracket finals against La Salle Academy. A First- Team All-State pick last spring, Blanchard posted a 7-1 record this year with four no- hitters and a 1.07 ERA. At the plate, she hit .528 and collected 28 hits, six doubles, four home runs, 21 runs batted in, and 24 runs scored. Lincoln's Blanchard is Gatorade R.I.
