Spring cleaning School board shuffle: Chairman's crosstown move leads to seat switch CUMBERLAND – School Committee Chairman Ray Salvatore's plan to move in with attorney Kelley Morris is prompting a rare mid-term seat switch on the school board. The Town Council last week approved appointing Salvatore to the at-large School Committee seat held by Steve Hess, and appointing Hess to Salvatore's District 5 seat. Both moves take effect May 1. Salvatore has been dating Morris, who advises the Town Council on various legal mat- ters, since last year. Morris also has ties to numerous boards in Cumberland and across the state. The school board chairman says he's moving from his apartment at 250 Highland Corporate Drive and in with Morris at a home at 2970 Mendon Road, which puts him out- side District 5 and in board member Karen Freedman's District 2. The project will be done by this summer, said Jeff Piete, owner of North Smithfield-based contractor Jeff's Home Improvement, which is doing the construction. Piete said he can't commit to a more specific timeline.
