Scouts continue Christmas tree pickup in Cumberland Sunday CUMBERLAND – Troop 12 Berkeley-Ashton Boy Scouts were out in force last Sunday morning, braving frigid temperatures for their first ever Christmas tree pickup fundraiser, with all proceeds going to defray costs and send the Scouts to summer camp. Discarded Christmas trees are not picked up by the town or its disposal service. The Scouts gathered at their spon- sor organization, St. Joseph Church on Mendon Road, before setting out with maps in hand to gather the dis- carded Christmas trees of residents who signed up for the troop's recy- cling service. Helping them was Thomas Brennan of Brennan Tree and Landscaping, who volunteered to chip all the trees into pine mulch. Brennan has two sons in the troop. The Scouts will return to work this Sunday, Jan. 14, for any additional residents interested in the service. The cost for Christmas tree removal is a $10 donation for trees up to 10 feet tall, $15 for trees over 10 feet, and just $5 for trees of senior citizens. Residents may schedule a tree pickup by emailing Michael. kenyon@cox.net, calling him at 401- 255-8692 or texting 617-872-2623.
