Radon control assurance required for new schools Town Planning Board also approves new public safety complex NORTH PROVIDENCE – The Planning Board last Wednesday approved plans for two new schools, one set to replace McGuire Elementary School, at 55 Central Ave., and another replac- ing Stephen Olney Elementary, at 1378 Douglas Ave., as well as a new public safety complex, at 1835 Mineral Spring Ave. The board approved site plans for the two new schools subject to two condi- tions: • Obtaining all required state permits. • Providing Town Planner David Westcott with a statement from a quali- fied professional regarding radon con- centrations in the buildings being demol- ished and appropriate measures for the control of radon in the new buildings. The board wanted assurances that any potential radon issue will be adequately addressed in the design and construction of the new schools.
