There were many different things to experience including food, music and cultural demonstrations. Ballet was performed because it originated in France. See more photos on page 16. SCITUATE – A basketball game like no other was taking place at Scituate Senior High School on Thursday afternoon, March 30. In this game teammates can hold hands while running down the bas- ketball court, students cheer for the opposing team, and there's always an opportunity for a re-do. It's a game that focuses more on having fun than who is winning or losing. This was a Unified Sports basketball game. Unified Sports brings together stu- dents with disabilities and students without, pairing them together as "athletes and partners." Working together, these students learn the value of teamwork, acceptance, and respect. "It's that message of unity and respect for all," Scituate Senior High School Principal Michael Hassel said on Thursday. Moderator David D'Agostino said he hasn't seen anything like this in his 18 years as the moderator, while the Scituate Republican Town Committee asserted it's never before happened. In a statement, the GOP supported the move, saying it "reflects on the townwide sentiment of discontent with the council majority." It was resident Stanley D'Orsi's motion, supported by a majority 291 votes, that recommitted the $36.2 million spending plan endorsed by the newly elected Town Council majority. That postponed the Financial Town Meeting for three weeks.
