6 WOONSOCKET APRIL 1-7, 2021 | VALLEY BREEZE | NORTH SMITHFIELD BLACKSTONE WOONSOCKET EDITION WOONSOCKET – New Englanders Helping Our Veterans, a Burrillville-based organization that connects veterans with services, will host a professional clothing raffle and fundraising event this Saturday, April 3, at 10 a.m. The event will take place on the grounds of the Veterans Memorial Museum, 78 Earl St., Woonsocket. Jim Collins, president of NEHOV, said the event will be open to all, but vet- erans are encouraged to attend. "Basically it's going to be a $20 donation, you're going to get a ham- burger, a bag of chips, a soda and a raffle ticket," he said. The event came about after Marc Allen Fine Clothiers donated their luxury clothing stock to local nonprof- it organizations after shutting down its Newport location last year. NEHOV received close to 150 professional shirts and sweaters that Collins plans to raffle off to help raise money for the organization. Home Depot and Lowe's, he said, also donated $1,500 worth of tools, grills and other prizes they plan to raffle off at Saturday's event. "It's almost guaranteed they're going to get themselves at least a $150 shirt," he said. In addition to the raffles, the event will include employment booths and other services from Operation Stand Down and Veterans Inc. "Every nickel goes back to our vets that fall between the cracks," he said. The museum will be open for tours, and Collins said he looks forward to introducing it to veterans from other parts of the state. "We've got guys down in URI and North Kingstown, they've never heard of this place," he said. The event will take place in the Veterans Memorial Museum park- ing lot, weather permitting. Parking is available at the Woonsocket Senior Center next door.
