12 LINCOLN MARCH 18-24, 2021 | VALLEY BREEZE | CUMBERLAND LINCOLN EDITION This Friday, the Town Council will discuss the matter of Almond's resignation and what comes next for the town. They're expected to tap an interim town administrator who will serve until a special election can be sched- uled by the state. There have been plenty of rumblings about who might suc- ceed Almond, including potential candidates from the current Town Council and numerous others interested in the seat. The person who wins the election will serve the remaining year and nine months on his four-year term. McKee and Almond began working together as mayor of Cumberland and town administrator of Lincoln roughly 15 years ago. Over the years, Almond said the two often collaborated on ideas, testified together before the General Assembly, pushed certain bills forward, discussed regionalizing certain services and more. "I have a lot of respect for Dan," Almond said. "He's a very thoughtful kind of guy. He's friendly and down-to-earth, but he's also determined and he has conviction. He doesn't shy away from what he believes in. He doesn't count votes. He just goes straight for- ward." Working in McKee's administration is a great opportunity, Almond said, though it's bitter- sweet leaving behind his 15-year position at the helm of the town of Lincoln. "I wouldn't have left here for many things," he said.
