BREEZE PHOTO BY ROBERT EMERSON Parents and middle school students braved frigid temperatures and a gusty wind to welcome returning seniors back to NORTH SMITHFIELD HIGH SCHOOL on Tuesday morning. See story on page 3. Welcome back, seniors! WOONSOCKET – Jesse Mayo, a local property owner in Woonsocket, said he's sometimes unable to sleep at night. It's not for lack of things to do during the day. The Falmouth, Mass., resident splits his time between overseeing three apart- ment buildings he owns in Woonsocket and West Warwick and managing other properties for Nexus Property Management in Worcester, Mass. He owns a total of 21 rental units, most of them occu- pied. But one year into the pandemic, Mayo said the difficulty of navigating restrictions as a landlord has started to take its toll. "Currently, I have three tenants that are behind on rent, and I'm a little worried on where this is going to leave me," he said. This time last year, Mayo said, he wasn't sole- ly dependent on rental property for his income. John Messier and Leszek "Les" Przybylko have purchased the prop- erty for $350,000, according to CYO Center Director Leo Fontaine. The sale includes two adjacent buildings at 77 Federal St. and 122 Clinton St. and the parking lot next door. Messier confirmed the sale to The Valley Breeze on Monday and said the two partners plan to develop the buildings into apartments. The 74-year-old North Smithfield resident would take time every day to walk his 180-pound English mas- tiff, Winchester, near their home. The family lives off Route 102, and the pair's route would take them out onto the main road toward Brigido's, where dog and owner were a com- mon site for passing drivers. "He would do it in the summer, in the winter, through snowstorms, it would not matter," said Hannah. "As my dad got older, he did go a little bit slower, but Winchester didn't mind, I don't think, because he never tried to pull him."
