CUMBERLAND – The owner of a large-scale property in a rural section of northern Cumberland is telling neighbors that he'd like to build a state-of-the-art athletic facil- ity there. Steve Giarrusso, in a letter to residents identifying himself as the owner of 53 acres at 200 Pine Swamp Road, said he owns the property behind the recipients' homes and has been "approached by an ambitious, knowledgeable group interested in developing a state-of-the-art athletic facility in the area." According to Giarrusso, the com- plex being proposed would provide local athletes with a top-notch indoor and outdoor space to prac- tice and compete, and would have a positive impact on the community and local businesses. "Your feedback on this project is very important to us and the town of Cumberland in determining the feasibility and approval of this proj- ect," he wrote. Cumberland Land Trust addressing vandalism at properties Group reminding residents that ATVs are not allowed CUMBERLAND – Members of the Cumberland Land Trust are reminding residents to use their trails for passive recreation only after they've discovered damage at multiple properties caused by riders of all-terrain vehicles. "We work so hard to get the trails in shape. To have the damage that was done is very upsetting," Randy Tuomisto, president of the Cumberland Land Trust, told The Breeze. Damage has been reported this year at both the Blackall Family Preserve, off Old West Wrentham Road, as well as at Mercy Woods Preserve, with access off Sumner Brown Road. "We're trying to work with the town one site at a time," he said, adding that the Land Trust is moni- toring its properties very closely By MELANIE THIBEAULT Valley Breeze Staff Writer melanie@valleybreeze.com See LAND TRUST, Page 9 LINCOLN – A decision to paint over 40 glass window panes at Lonsdale Elementary School in an effort to prevent sun glare in certain classrooms has Lincoln officials scratching their heads. Offering an explanation during Monday's School Committee meet- ing, Chairman Joseph Goho said whiteboards used by educators at Lonsdale had been rendered inef- fective due to the glare of the sun, which made it difficult for students learning virtually to make out what was on the board. "Unfortunately, that resulted in the windows, 40 of them, being painted," he said. Goho said, "We understand why the decision was made, to reduce the glare so those boards can be used, but this is a temporary situa- tion," he said of distance learning Windows painted over at Lonsdale Elementary By NICOLE DOTZENROD Valley Breeze Staff Writer nicole@valleybreeze.com See LONSDALE, Page 8 TUOMISTO Climbing in Cumberland ©2021 THE VALLEY BREEZE Serving Cumberland and Lincoln Breeze THE VALLEY FREE JANUARY 14-20, 2021 Wills & Trusts Estate Planning & Settlement The Law Office of George M.
