The giveaway took the place of the organization's usual Veterans Day dinner, which couldn't be held this year due to COVID-19. Post 85 and USA Veterans and Military Support Foundation will distribute food to veterans Saturday WOONSOCKET – Thanks to the generosity of the USA Veterans and Military Support Foundation, mem- bers of American Legion Fairmount Post 85, 870 River St., will receive and distribute 400 15-day meal kits to veterans in need onsite and to specific locations throughout the city. This will be the largest veteran sup- port operation in the city of its kind, according to a press release. Distribution will be on Saturday, Nov. 21, between noon and 4 p.m. It will include the distribution of a kit to about 100 veterans living senior citizen housing complexes throughout the city, and 150 additional boxes to the New Beginnings Food Pantry and the Gateway to Independence Nickerson House Veteran Community Center managed by the Woonsocket YWCA. The distribution of kits to all other veterans in need will take place at the American Legion Fairmount Post 85, and the foods will be available for pick up throughout the day. Representatives of the USA Veterans and Military Support Foundation will arrive at Fairmount Post 85 via an 18-wheel trailer truck at noon to kick off the event. The event will be conducted in accordance with all COVID-19 pro- tocols. All American Legion staff and volunteers will be required to wear face masks, and hand sanitizer will be available to patrons.
