SMITHFIELD SCITUATE FOSTER GLOCESTER | VALLEY BREEZE & OBSERVER | OCTOBER 15-21, 2020 SMITHFIELD 13 at night. "The detail in the painting, the fig- ures. I had to have them all," he said. Included in the set are the large let- ters spelling out BOO that line the driveway. The collection partially belongs to Hewes, partially to Coletta, who said she gets something new every year. Coletta added ghostly figurines of a haunted bride and groom, witches cloaked in white gauze, as well as wispy ghosts among the trees. The whole set-up took more than 10 hours to complete, Coletta said. "It's been a hard year so far. We always like to decorate, but we really wanted to do something special this year," she said. "We pulled out all the heavy-hitters," Coletta added. The display has drawn a good deal of attention from pedestrians and motor- ists, with plenty of honks of apprecia- tion. "We love watching people enjoy it. That's why we do it," Coletta said. The decorations feature a fog machine on Halloween, the couple sav- ing it for that night to avoid upsetting the Fire Department. "It makes everything extra spooky here, really creates that eerie effect," Coletta said. While Halloween rules in the front of the house, Coletta said her mother decorates the porch and entryway with more fall-themed decorations, including mums and squash. This year, Coletta disturbed her mother's decora- tion space with ghosts lining the porch railing. "She's going to have to deal," she said.
