Town launches pedestrian safety campaign Residents encouraged to 'stop, look, wave' NORTH SMITHFIELD – The North Smithfield Police Department in partnership with several commu- nity partners has launched a new ini- tiative intended to keep pedestrians and bicycle riders safe. The North Smithfield Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety Education and Enforcement Initiative is designed to educate residents about the impor- tance of safety for those who share the road with drivers. As part of the initiative, residents are encouraged to follow the most important rule around interactions between drivers and pedestrians, to "stop, look and wave" to make sure both sides know when it's OK to proceed. Residents are invited to take their own pictures with the signs and post them on social media with the hashtags #riwaves #nswaves. WOONSOCKET – A space once known for overeating of fried food will soon be a hub of health, with Oak Street Health set to fill the former New China Super Buffet in the Diamond Hill Plaza at 2000 Diamond Hill Road. Workers on scene confirmed that ongoing construction activity next to Subway is for a medical facil- ity, and Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt said that facility will be run by Oak Street Health, a company that's been in Rhode Island but will enter Woonsocket for the first time. Oak Street Health markets itself as offering personalized and accessible primary care for adults on Medicare. Baldelli-Hunt said she sees it as a cross between an urgent care, a doc- tor's office and a hospital, provid- ing seniors with transportation to appointments and providing around- the-clock patient support as well as video visits and in-person visits.
