several years, said Barbieri.

Lombardi said officials opened up
the beach a week earlier, around
June 24, after seeing some issues
with people using the park in inap-
propriate ways. The desire for over-
sight and to allow people to swim
during a heat wave contributed to
the decision to open earlier, said
Barbieri, as did the plan to make
sure there were enough lifeguards on
duty for the summer.
Lombardi said the issues of people
coming in and not respecting the
facility have been curtailed since it
was officially opened.
"In my opinion, if you can't
behave, you can't come," he said.
