13 ENTERTAINMENT JULY 8-14, 2020 | VALLEY BREEZE & OBSERVER LIVING EDITION It's Christmas in July at Hearthside movie night LINCOLN – The holiday season is in full swing at Hearthside in its first of three offerings of classic movies shown in an outdoor cinema setting this summer. It's Christmas in July on Saturday, July 18, as Kris Kringle, also known as Santa Claus, is the feature in the 1947 Academy Award winning movie "Miracle on 34th Street." "Hearthside is holding outdoor events this summer as a way of offer- ing a safe and different way for fami- lies to enjoy the museum's programs in the fresh air and with ample space to provide distance. The selection of two classic family movies tie in to the different eras that are featured in the museum's Toys from the Attic exhibit currently on display," states Kathy Hartley, president of the Friends of Hearthside. "With a limited capac- ity of 50 and an expansive lawn to spread out under the stars, families can remain distant from others at tables set up on the grounds, or they can bring their own blankets and chairs for a pleasant summer evening activity." Tickets are $10 each, or $25 for a family of four, and includes compli- mentary popcorn. Beverages will be available for purchase. Each child will also leave with a surprise they might have received in their Christmas stocking during the 1950s. Advance registration only and tickets can be purchased through the organization's website, hearthside- house.org or by calling 401-726-0597. The event begins at 8 p.m. and is held at Hearthside, 677 Great Road, Lincoln. There is a rain date of Sunday, July 19. Re-opening proto- cols for the safety of guests and vol- unteers requires 6-foot distancing and wearing of face coverings for all. The next movie is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8, with the 1982 sci-fi classic hit "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial." The rain date is the next night. The outdoor movie series will conclude on Saturday, Aug. 22 with "Meet Me in St. Louis," in honor of the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. This movie event will be a fundraiser for the volunteer organization. Hearthside was the model for the Rhode Island building at the St. Louis World's Fair. While Hearthside is not open to the public at the present time, tours of the Toys from the Attic exhibit may be arranged for small groups by appointment. The museum's gift shop is offering special openings during July and August on Wednesdays and Saturdays from noon to 2 p.m. It is suggested to call ahead. The exhibit is planned to open for public tours on Sunday, Aug. 16, with optional toy-making activities for children out- doors. ACROSS 1. Cyprinids 6. Icelandic literary works 10. Break in half 14.
