NSHS students win state honors at National History Day competition NORTH SMITHFIELD – North Smithfield High School students claimed several state titles at the Rhode Island National History Day competition, which was held virtu- ally April 10-17. Kate Lapierre, Krissy Lapierre and Abby Votta won first place in the group documentary category for their project on Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Ali Boutelle and Megan Skinner won third place in the group exhibit category for their project on Ileana Ros-Lehtinen: A Woman of Firsts, and Jenna Gamache won third place in the individual exhibit category for her project on Prince's "Purple Reign." Per National History Day rules, Kate and Krissy Lapierre and Abby Votta are now eligible to compete in the national contest in June. Like the state competition, the national con- test will be held virtually. Earlier this year, the school hosted a National History Day competition for all students enrolled in Grade 11 CP U.S. History, Grade 11 CP English and AP U.S. Government and Politics. Students prepared projects according to the theme "Breaking Barriers in History." The winners from the school- wide competition were: Ali Boutelle and Megan Skinner (first place for group exhibit); Olivia Cimerol, Noah Gremour, Jordan Allard and Jack Beauchemin (second place for group exhibit); Pasquale Camastro (first place for individual exhibit); Jenna Gamache (second place for individual exhibit); Krissy Lapierre, Kate Lapierre and Abby Votta (first place for group documentary); and Bethany Reposa (first place for indi- vidual paper). 3755 Mendon Rd.
