12 CUMBERLAND / LINCOLN JUNE 4-10, 2020 | VALLEY BREEZE | CUMBERLAND LINCOLN EDITION Families benefiting from the pro- gram live in Cumberland, Lincoln, Woonsocket, and Central Falls. In addition to club members, some meals are delivered to local seniors who aren't able to leave their homes, he noted. Bank of America, which reached out to the Boys & Girls Clubs with the idea, has been a longtime part- ner of the clubs across the state, in particular with teen employment and career development programs, Rebelo said, adding that the bank has always gone above and beyond for everyone. "Sometimes when times are bad, you really see the goodness in people," he said. During the COVID-19 crisis, with most employees working from home, senior staff members came up with an idea to make boxed meals at the Lincoln facility, 670 George Washington Highway, and approached Dagesse, of North Smithfield, for ideas of who could benefit from the meals. "I immediately thought of the Boys & Girls Clubs," Dagesse said, noting that the bank has partnered with them for many years, and because their staff members are so embedded in the community, they know where the food is most needed. "We've done 1,500 meals a week," he said. "There has been zero waste." The Lincoln building normally serves between 700 to 900 employ- ees. "As the coronavirus continues to impact the Rhode Island communi- ty, the demand for food assistance is increasing. Food banks are trying to keep up but we recognize that we can also help by transforming our Lincoln contact center cafete- ria into a food kitchen to provide donated meals to hungry families and individuals," Bill Hatfield, pres- ident of Bank of America in Rhode Island, said in a statement. The bank provides a diverse menu to the clubs a week in advance, and each day staff from the clubs pick up the meals from the Lincoln facility and distribute them to their members. "(Staff) who are working at the Boys & Girls Clubs to facilitate this are an inspiration," Dagesse said. CAFETERIA From Page 11 BUYING - GOLD, SILVER & OTHER PRECIOUS METALS OLD, BROKEN, NEW!
