GAIL DENOMME and RON BERLINGHOF were married in Union Cemetery on May 1, an unusual location chosen to pay tribute to his parents and her interest in old cemeteries. 'Till death do us part' Local couple marries in Union Cemetery NORTH SMITHFIELD – Gail Denomme and Ron Berlinghof had more than 9,000 guests in attendance when they exchanged wedding vows earlier this month, but they don't think the governor will mind. That's because Denomme and Berlinghof married among the perma- nent residents of Union Cemetery, a place of great personal significance to them both. The couple met 10 years ago when Denomme returned to the area from North Carolina to help care for her aging father, the late Arthur Denomme, a former town admin- istrator who died in 2018. At the time, Berlinghof was living across the street from her parents near Union Cemetery. Though they'd both grown up in North Smithfield, they met for the first time as neighbors that year. In that time, she said, she's received calls almost daily from anxious cus- tomers wanting to know when they'll be able to return. Lemieux, who fol- lows the governor's press conferences closely and belongs to online forums with other salon owners, always has the same response: "You'll know when I know." Despite the anxiety, she said, the extended closure has been "a blessing in disguise." The North Smithfield resident has used the time to outfit a new salon space at 66 Main St., the former Heritage Coffee Shop, effectively doubling the foot- print of the business and, for the first time, creating a salon that was com- pletely her own. "It was just a completely empty space, which for somebody like me was really exciting. I had envisioned what I wanted a salon to look like," she said. Lemieux said she began plan- ning the move earlier this year, long before COVID-19 shut down busi- nesses across the state.
