CUMBERLAND – The town has hired the same company that offered recommendations two years ago on how local fields should be properly cared for to now carry out the work instead of having town workers do it. Atlantic Golf and Turf, of Massachusetts, will be paid up to $49,484 as the lowest bidder on the work after the Town Council two weeks ago authorized the mayor to enter into a contract with the com- pany. The previous request for proposals sought a company to do lawn fertil- ization services including both the purchase and application of products for 16 athletic fields in town. The fields have long been a source of controversy and inter-department squabbles over who is responsible for what, even as some in town, particu- larly members of local sports organi- zations, have complained about the perennial poor condition of playing surfaces. The town's bid specifications listed a number of fertilizers and other materials that will be used on the fields. This year, already faced with the daunting task of trying to teach kindergarten students in an online setting, Foussekis, of Cumberland, decided to take it to another level, despite the challenges posed by the ongoing outbreak of the coronavi- rus. "I can't express to you how dif- ficult and heartbreaking it has been to not be able to see my students," she told The Breeze. "I know many other teachers all around the world are all feeling the same emotions."
