NORTH SMITHFIELD BLACKSTONE WOONSOCKET EDITION | VALLEY BREEZE | APRIL 9-15, 2020 WOONSOCKET 5 WOONSOCKET – A spokes- person for the Rhode Island Department of Health confirmed to The Valley Breeze on Tuesday approximately 15 residents of Oakland Grove Health Care Center had tested positive for COVID-19 as of late Monday night. No deaths from COVID-19 had been associated with the facility as of Tuesday. The 15 reported cases do not include any possible infections of staff members. Joseph Wendelken, public infor- mation officer for the RIDOH, said the department is monitoring a number of outbreaks at nursing homes around the state. "At this point, we have public health epidemiologists that are working with each facility that has groupings of cases to make sure that they're taking infectious control measures to keep residents who don't have COVID-19 right now healthy and to prevent trans- mission and also to make sure that people who do have COVID-19 are getting the care they need," he said. These measures, he said, include moving residents suspected or con- firmed of having COVID-19 to pri- vate rooms, restricting the number of staff members who interact with COVID-19 patients, treating for- mer roommates of confirmed cases as COVID-19 cases and doing temperature checks of staff every four hours.
