WOONSOCKET ��� The Blackstone River Bikeway, a 48-mile dedicated path extending from Providence to Worcester, Mass., has, for many years, been little more than a distant dream for supporters. Sure, the transit departments in both states have made some major progress since the project was first envisioned in the 1980s, and beautiful, if isolated, stretches of pavement along the planned route see plenty of pedestrian and bike traffic daily throughout the warmer seasons. The 11.6 miles of uninterrupted trail stretching from Lincoln to Woonsocket have become a popular summer attraction. But issues with design plans and lack of funding have resulted in long delays, with the See PATH, Page 14 Denny���s Restaurant prepares for Dowling Village opening By SANDY PHANEUF Valley Breeze Staff Writer NORTH SMITHFIELD ��� Hungry night owls rejoice. North Smithfield will soon have its very own 24/7 sit- down dining option with the opening of Denny���s Restaurant at Dowling Village. The building that will house the restaurant sprouted up beside CVS seemingly overnight and ���Now Hiring��� signs were hung on the wall in front of the property and ads found their way onto the pages of local newspapers. ���Join our winning team in North Smithfield, scheduled to open in May,��� they said. But not so fast. A spokesman for the familystyle restaurant chain said the location has not yet set an opening date. He told The Breeze he���s not sure when the store will open but it likely won���t be ���until at least September.��� The answer has become a common theme among the corporate chains that often don���t reveal their plans until they���re fully prepared for a grand opening celebration.
