4 NO. SMITHFIELD / WOONSOCKET JAN. 9-15, 2020 | VALLEY BREEZE | NORTH SMITHFIELD BLACKSTONE WOONSOCKET NORTH SMITHFIELD – The new convenience store under con- struction at 780 Great Road is near- ing completion, with a projected opening date set for the last week of the month. On Monday, the Town Council approved a victualing license for the new Seasons Corner Market that's been taking shape over the past sev- eral months. In addition to a Shell gas station and convenience store, the location will include a Honey Dew Donuts inside the store. David Orr, director of operations for Colbea Enterprises, told The Breeze crews are finishing up work at the location and will be ready to stock the shelves within the next few weeks. "We're looking at the store being set up probably in about two weeks and looking at being open the last week of January," he said. In addition to a victualing license, the council also approved a license for 24-hour operation for both the gas station and Honey Dew. Though Councilor Paul Zwolenski said he's usually not in favor of extended- hours licenses, in this case, he said, the station's proximity to Route 146 convinced him otherwise. Councilor Claire O'Hara also raised concerns about safety, warn- ing the company against leaving employees alone for late-night shifts. Orr said the company plans to have at least two people working in the station at all times, one on the conve- nience store side and one at Honey Dew. "We take consideration for the safety of our employees," he said. Prior to the renovations, the loca- tion was the site of a six-pump Shell station with a service center and snack shop. In December 2018, representatives of the company approached the town with plans to tear down the service center and replace it with a modern, 3,600-square-foot convenience store. As part of the project, the pump stations were also rearranged and increased from six to 11 to allow for more vehicles.
