10 LINCOLN JANUARY 9-15, 2020 | VALLEY BREEZE | CUMBERLAND LINCOLN EDITION Brito's Restaurant & Grill was set to replace The Twisted Hop Tavern at 48 SCHOOL ST., ALBION, but never opened its doors. LINCOLN – Three months after a new eatery received Town Council approval to replace the former Twisted Hop Tavern, the space at 48 School St. in Albion remains vacant. The Twisted Hop closed up shop last summer, roughly a year and a half after opening next to the Albion Fire Station. In August, the Town Council approved the transfer of the Twisted Hop's liquor license to a new restau- rant called Brito's. The liquor license transfer was approved pending that the proper payment of fees, paper- work and clearances were received by the Town Clerk's office. This week, Town Clerk Monique Clauson told The Valley Breeze that Brito's never opened their doors and may have been released from their purchase and sales agreement with Twisted Hop. Clauson said the town never issued the licenses to Brito's. While their licenses were granted pending all paperwork was com- pleted and state clearances obtained, Clauson said Brito's ownership never went through to the Health Department clearance stage and own- ers were never issued the victualling license. "They decided not to pursue open- ing the restaurant," the clerk said, adding that the restaurant rescinded its liquor license application on Dec. 2 and closed their business with the Division of Taxation and the town's tax assessor's office. "It was unfortunate, but I think they just ran out of funds," Clauson said. When Luis Brito applied to open his restaurant over the summer, the license paperwork said he had invested $80,000 of capital into the business. Addressing the Town Council in August, Brito said he wanted to open a "family-oriented, kid-friendly" res- taurant serving "traditional American foods." He did not return a request for comment on the plans for 48 School St. Plans fall through for Albion restaurant By NICOLE DOTZENROD Valley Breeze Staff Writer • New or Used Autos (includes refinanced autos from other institutions) • ¼% (.25%) off of qualifying rate (rate is determined by credit worthiness) Members can also save an additional ¼% (.25%) off if loan is paid with BRFCU payroll or automatic transfer • Membership eligibility is required • Please mention this coupon or bring it in to receive the additional savings!
