2 LINCOLN NOVEMBER 21-27, 2019 | VALLEY BREEZE | CUMBERLAND LINCOLN EDITION LINCOLN – On Nov. 9, Linda and Bob Gaudette were attending a pasta and meatball dinner at Christ Church in Lincoln when someone took a family heirloom from them whose sentimental worth far out- weighed any monetary value it has. Though Bob concedes that they shouldn't have left the decorative oriental screen protruding from the open trunk, under cardboard but illuminated under a streetlight, he said it never entered his mind that someone might snatch the folding screen from the trunk of their car as they were parked on Lonsdale Avenue. The Gaudettes, longtime Lincoln residents who said they never want to leave this town, were in the process of shutting down the store they'd operated for 31 years, Bridal & Gift Wedding Boutique in Attleboro, Mass., and one of the items they were taking home that day was this screen. Several boxes of other items from the store were also taken. According to Linda, who's broken into tears several times at the loss of the screen, it was "extremely sen- timental" to her and was "the only thing of value" her mother left her. She said she has no idea where it originally came from. "I am so attached to things that really mean a lot to me," she said. "To whoever stole it, it doesn't mean a dang thing." It helped, she said, to hear her daughter tell her that these are only things. The Gaudettes are pleading with the person who took the item that he or she return it through their church. They say they won't press charges even if someone does come forward. This item likely has no resale value, they say. The couple said they were only at the Nov. 9 dinner for about 45 min- utes. They'd already had a flat tire and also had a Veterans Day event that day – she was in her lieutenant uniform as a Vietnam veteran Army nurse. They were in such a hurry that they went to the dinner without first dropping off the screen. "My brain says I should forgive, but my heart says I can't forget," said Linda of the theft. Anyone with information about the screen can call the church at 401-725-1920.
