PAWTUCKET – The goal this sea- son was to make the playoffs and com- pete for a Super Bowl title, and that's just what the Tolman High football team will do on Saturday after posting a 24-0 victory over Chariho last Friday night in their Division III semifinal- round matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Cranston Stadium, and the Tigers, who are now 8-2, will take on undefeated Pilgrim, which posted a 30-12 victory over Narragansett in their semifinal- round contest last Friday. The Patriots' closest game this season was their 16-14 victory over the Tigers on Oct. 11 at Pariseau Field, which saw a late fourth- quarter turnover by Tolman inside the Patriots' 15 seal Pilgrim's win."It's lovely," Tolman head coach Jason DeLawrence said about the rematch with Pilgrim. "I know everybody want- ed it, and now we're both going to get it. (Pilgrim) is a great team. They're big, physical, and fast, but so are we. We're just going to see who wants it more." The Tigers were obviously flying high after their win over Chariho. After back-to-back disheartening seasons in Division I, the Tigers were dropped to D-III last year and reached the playoffs. The last time Tolman played in a Super Bowl was in 2010, when DeLawrence was an assistant before he went to Classical. "We lost to Woonsocket that year," DeLawrence noted. "We're a Division II team on a healthy year. I think we're a solid Division II team, but we were put in D-III and now we have to finish the job. And it just feels so good for these kids to come on the other side of this now. When I was here in the early 2000s to the late 2000s, we went to four or five Super Bowls." He added that the Tolman boys' soc- cer program set the bar high – with back-to-back trips to the state finals and last year's state championship – and he PAWTUCKET EDITION | VALLEY BREEZE | NOVEMBER 20-26, 2019 SPORTS & RECREATION 9 Tigers punch ticket to Super Bowl Tolman's 24-0 victory over Chariho in semifinals sets up showdown with Pilgrim in Saturday's Div.
