Saints net first girls' volleyball title SRA erases sting from last year's loss in D-III finals by blanking Block Island By KAYLA PANU Valley Breeze Sports Writer PROVIDENCE – After watching a 2-0 lead slip away in their five-set defeat to Rogers in last season's Division III finals, the players on the St. Raphael Academy girls' volleyball team were determined to not take their feet on the accelerator in Sunday afternoon's D-III title match against Block Island at Rhode Island College. This time, the Saints finished what they started, and thanks to their 3-0 victory over the Hurricanes that they won by scores of 25-19, 25-22, and 25-19, they were able to capture the first championship in their program's eight-year history. "Last season just fueled us this whole season," SRA setter and junior captain Madison Nault said. "We wanted to get back on this court and show every- one what we're truly made of as a team." The Saints, who wrap up their season with an 18-2 record, had rolled past Providence Country Day, 3-0, in the quarterfinals and defeated Central, 3-1, in last Wednesday's semifinals at Cranston East High's gym.
