VALLEY BREEZE & OBSERVER LIVING EDITION | NOVEMBER 20-26, 2019 ENTERTAINMENT 3 BRT presents Eileen Ivers and Universal Roots CUMBERLAND – Blackstone River Theatre, 549 Broad St., will present an evening featuring Eileen Ivers and Universal Roots on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 8 p.m. Grammy-awarded and Emmy- nominated, Eileen Ivers is the groundbreaking musical star of Riverdance, a founding member of Cherish the Ladies, and one of the most awarded All-Ireland Fiddle and Banjo champions ever. Ivers' most recent CD, "Beyond the Bog Road," focuses on the influences of the Celtic tradition on roots music – bluegrass, French-Canadian, Cajun, Appalachian, Americana – and how the music journeyed on to become a fundamental ingredient of the American Country music tradition. Irish Music Magazine calls it "a tri- umph … a musical Magnus-Opus" and the album reached number one on the Alt-Country Roots Music Chart. Ivers has been called a "sensa- tion" by Billboard magazine and "the Jimi Hendrix of the violin," by The New York Times. "She elec- trifies the crowd with a dazzling show of virtuoso playing," says The Irish Times. Ivers' recording credits include over 80 contemporary and traditional albums and numerous movie scores. Eileen's new band, Universal Roots, features Matt Mancuso (lead vocals, guitar, trumpet, fiddle), Buddy Connolly (button accordion, whistles, piano, vocals), Lindsey Horner (upright and electric bass, baritone sax, vocals), Dave Barckow (lead vocals, percus- sion, guitar), joining together with Ivers on fiddle, mandolin, banjo, bodhran, and live looping. Admission is $26 in advance and $30 on the day of the show. For reservations or information, call 401-725-9272.
