Conte signs NLI to Duke Cougars' baseball captain takes talents to Atlantic Coast Conference school as pitcher/middle infielder NORTH PROVIDENCE – North Providence High senior Nick Conte has been regarded as one of the top shortstops in northern Rhode Island, but it's been at another position where Conte had attracted the atten- tion of several Division I colleges along the East Coast for the past year and a half. It's been as a pitcher, and it's been at showcase tourna- ments, such as the Future Starz Tournament in Durham, N.C., Summer Rivalry Classic at Fenway Park in Boston, and Perfect Game WWBA World Championships in Jupiter, Fla., where Conte had delivered some outstanding performances on the mound. With all the attention he's received this year, all eyes across the state promise to be on Conte next spring when he takes the field for the Cougars. But before setting his sights on 2020, the hard-throwing righthander took care of an important piece of business last Wednesday after- noon by signing a National Letter of Intent to continue his baseball career at Duke University.
