8 HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE 2019 | THE VALLEY BREEZE taste buds. Rhode Island Red Food Tours offers tours in both Providence and Newport and promises "a unique opportunity to explore the evolving culinary landscape of Rhode Island while gaining insight into the history, architecture and culture of the state." Federal Hill Tours, led by historian and Master Chef Walter Potenza, lets participants discover the history of Federal Hill and sample cheeses, char- cuterie, and antipasti and receive a pre- sentation on ingredients used in Italian cooking. Potenza also hosts cooking classes, from recreational classes to bootcamps for children and teens, through Chef Walters Cooking School in Cranston. Professor Chef, a cooking school based in North Providence, offers hands-on cooking classes with a farm- to-table angle, led by Chef-Owners Phillip Griffin and Malinda Coletta. If beer is the key to their heart, snag tickets to the Rhode Island Brew Bus or the 8th annual Rhode Island Brew Fest taking place Saturday, Jan. 25, in Providence, featuring more than 55 breweries and 175 beers to sample. The Brew Bus offers tasters and flights at each stop as well as a tour of at least one production facility; stops include Smug, Crooked Current, and Foolproof, all in Pawtucket, and Ravenous Brewing Co., which is planning a move from Woonsocket to Cumberland. From the Guild in Pawtucket to Diamond Hill Vineyards in Cumberland, local breweries, vine- yards, and distilleries offer tours and tastings. The adventures aren't limited to these few categories, of course. For the New England sports fans, tickets to a game will be a hit. And depending on their interests, there are plenty of classes from improv comedy to art to black- smithing at the Hannaway Blacksmith Shop in Lincoln. For those with a big- ger budget, plan a trip to escape the snowy New England winter or wait for nicer weather and create a road trip with a theme: hit all the brewer- ies in Maine, sample all the barbecue in Tennessee, or visit all the cows in Vermont. Whatever gift you choose to give, be creative, have fun, and happy holidays. ADVENTURE From Page 6 Give the gift of COOKING CLASSES to the culinary adventurer on your list this year.
