14 HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE 2019 | THE VALLEY BREEZE The Breeze asked area residents for some unique or fun ideas for gifts this year. "Experience gifts," they tell us, are all the rage, giving back all year. They mean less clutter around the house and they don't break quickly, bringing instant regret. Here are some of the best ideas offered: • A Community Supported Agriculture membership, or a CSA, where you pay to regularly go to the farm during the summer or fall season (more hardy vegetables late) to take home a share of the vegetables, fruits or flowers. Many of these CSAs are in the $200 range, but they vary. We're told you should really like vegetables if you go this route, as you'll get a lot of them. • A coffee or wine of the month membership, where you can take a tour around the world through experiencing its best drinks. Costs for these memberships vary wildly depending on what you're looking for. • One reader says the best gift you could give her is one year of a housecleaning service so she can enjoy more experiences herself. Though it can be expensive, there are often options, including a partial cleaning or a modified schedule. You will be a hero forever. • A flight experience. Have a friend or family member who can't get enough of adventure? Nowadays, you can buy a flight experience where they can actually fly the plane with the pilot next to them. It's a guaranteed unfor- gettable experience, and left one of our readers speechless. • Books still bring some of the best and most affordable experiences known to human- kind, transporting us to far-off places. One book could end up finding a permanent spot on the shelf. The Breeze readership area has a few fabulous bookstores, including Stillwater Books in Pawtucket and An Unlikely Story in Plainville, Mass. Experiential gifts are in, say readers By ETHAN SHOREY Valley Breeze Managing Editor ethan@valleybreeze.com One local resident's weekly share of a FALL CSA, which she says is one of the best gifts you can get if you're looking to avoid clutter and stuff you don't need. • The Adventure Challenge. This is a mystery scratch-off book, available at www.theadventurechallenge.com, with 50 creative adventures contained in it. Couple and family editions give participants special things to do together that they wouldn't plan themselves. Each adventure is designed to help participants explore outside their habits, dive deep- er into their relationship, and make meaningful memories. • Some readers love subscription boxes, which come in all different kinds, for children and adults. There are literal- ly hundreds to choose from, with an assortment of products that typically come in a common theme. Examples include pet boxes, food boxes and beauty boxes. Most services keep each month's specific items a surprise. • One reader suggested painting events, sometimes paired with wine or some other fun offering. These can be great as a date night or as a family. NOV-13-2019-GIFT-NPS-Mel.indd 14 11/4/19 10:15 AM
