6 HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE 2019 | THE VALLEY BREEZE Not all gifts can be wrapped up with a shiny bow. This holiday season, log off Amazon, skip the department stores, and get your loved ones a ticket to their next great adventure. Figuring out what activities the people in your life enjoy – and choosing something you can do together – is a great oppor- tunity to bring you closer. From zip lining to culinary tours to live music and theater, these gifts are sure to cre- ate memories that will last longer than the newest iteration of the iPhone. For those who live for live entertainment Whether you're looking for a gift for your musical-loving cousin or your dad who's obsessed with glam metal, buying tickets to an upcoming show is an easy task since there are plenty of music venues and theaters in Rhode Island to choose from. For the theater-goers, shows sched- uled for early 2020 at the Providence Performing Arts Center include "Fiddler on the Roof," "Hello, Dolly," Blue Man Group, and "Jesus Christ Superstar," while Trinity Rep will fea- ture "A Tale of Two Cities," "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street," and more during the new year. For an early Christmas gift, Trinity Rep's "A Christmas Carol" runs from Nov. 7 to Dec. 29. In Pawtucket, Burbage Theatre Company, at its new location at 59 Blackstone Ave., will be performing three shows in the early part of next year: "Edward II," "In The Next Room, Or The Vibrator Play," and "Junk." For the Celtic and world music lovers, Cumberland's Blackstone River Theatre offers concerts as well as music classes (including ukulele, banjo, and guitar) throughout the year if you're looking to give a gift that keeps on giving. There are plenty of other venues in the state, including The Met in Pawtucket and Stadium Theatre in Woonsocket, to check, as well as more options in nearby Boston. Tickets to music festivals, like the Newport Folk Festival in July, are also a fun option. For the outdoor (and indoor) adventurers For when the warmer weather returns, a zip line adventure is the perfect outing for the thrill seekers on your list. There are several locations in Massachusetts that offer zip lines, including Berkshire East Canopy Tour in Charlemont, TreeTop Adventures in Canton, and Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort Aerial Adventure Park in Hancock. For a less adventurous ver- sion, Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence offers a Soaring Eagle Zip Ride with "breathtaking views" 115 feet above the zoo, including over Providence and into Narragansett Bay in side-by-side seats. If pedaling is more their speed, Rail Explorers in Portsmouth features two- and four-seat pedal-powered rail bikes, which are accessible to people of all ages and abilities; participants can choose from two tours that travel the west side of Aquidneck Island. Splurge for a Newport Helicopter Tour, with options including a man- sion tour, island tour, lighthouse tour, sunset island tour, Providence night flight, or an intro/demo flight. Bring the adventure inside with R1 Entertainment Center in Lincoln. Throw some axes or test your speed with indoor go-karting. For the kids or kids at heart, BattlegroundZ in Lincoln offers paintball, archery tag, laser tag, dodgeball, and more, or bounce around on the indoor trampolines at Aero Trampoline in Woonsocket. For the culinary adventurer Not just for foodies, a culinary tour is a great gift for anyone with working taste buds.
