A ribbon-cutting cer- emony for the new fitness center at the combined campus of Citizens Memorial and Pothier Elementary Schools was held Sept. 24. The fitness center is the result of a $100,000 grant given to the schools from the National Foundation for Governors' Fitness Councils. See more photos on page 5. The new policy is part of an ele- mentary truancy program being piloted in Woonsocket and other communities around the state. The program, said Supt. Now, after dozens of interviews and thousands of hours of work, the film is finally nearing its completion, and de Rezendes is ready to put the project on display. At least, almost ready. The film still has to undergo extensive edit- ing before its projected release date in late summer of 2021. The group, Low Life Standards, was formed in 2017 by several city residents with a shared interest in cars and other modified vehicles. The group hosts meet-ups around southern New England and has a Facebook page with more than 5,000 followers where members post pho- tos of projects and share info about events. Since the spring, they've hosted events at Woonsocket Plaza, gathering one Sunday night per month from about 8 to 10:30 p.m. According to Austin Conant and Ryan Littlefield, two of the organiz- ers behind the group, the events draw between 900 and 1,500 cars to the plaza every month, with some drivers traveling from as far away as New York and Boston to attend. "We have that vast amount of people driving, traveling to come to our events because they know that they're worth a couple hours' drive to come out," said Conant.
