SMITHFIELD SCITUATE FOSTER GLOCESTER EDITION | VALLEY BREEZE & OBSERVER | JULY 11-17, 2019 SMITHFIELD 3 SMITHFIELD – The dozen or so ABC Professional Tree Service trucks staged in the Apple Valley Mall parking lot are part of National Grid's statewide limb removal work to protect power lines, according to Town Manager Randy Rossi. Rossi said many residents have questioned if the parking situation is for advertising purposes, and he was able to confirm with National Grid that the company that owns them has a contract to park at the Apple Valley Mall, 445 Putnam Pike, during the limb removal work. Ted Kresse of National Grid said the trucks will be staged at the Apple Valley Mall for three or four more weeks until work in the north- ern end of the state is complete. He said limb removal work for the state's vegetation management program occurs in a four-year cycle across the state. He said four years is generally enough time to stop any dangerous growth over power lines. Limb removal is taking place on Route 44 to the Connecticut line, and on Route 101 at Route 102 to Burrillville. "When we're doing the tree main- tenance, we're looking for limbs that hang over lines that could cause a disruption of service during a storm," Kresse said. Kresse said National Grid will come out and take a look at any trees that a resident feels may pose a threat to power lines, and resi- dents can contact the customer ser- vice line at 1-800-322-3223. If a customer is concerned about a tree on their property that may be trimmed, Kresse said National Grid is willing to work with them to come up with a solution. "We will take into consideration the customer's needs and desires," he said.
