10 PAWTUCKET JULY 10-16, 2019 | VALLEY BREEZE | PAWTUCKET EDITION PAWTUCKET – The city of Pawtucket and the Parks and Recreation Division last week announced that the city would be opening the Fairlawn Veterans Memorial Park Pool last Saturday, July 6, after the hiring of two certi- fied lifeguards. The opening had been delayed due to difficulty in securing the needed lifeguard personnel. "I appreciate Parks and Recreation's efforts to fill the posi- tions in less than a week after the prior lifeguards had backed out, and thank everyone who stepped up in assisting with finding quali- fied lifeguards to keep our residents safe while they cool off in the hot summer days," said Mayor Donald Grebien in a release. "We are excited to get the com- munity pool up and running," said Recreation Manager John Blais. "Thank you to all for your positive community support and outreach, which helped us hire the right, quali- fied lifeguards. This is a testament to the great people who live in the neighborhood." The community pool is mostly open seven days a week through Aug. 18. The pool was scheduled to close July 9-10 and July 17-18 due to scheduling conflicts with life- guards. As of press time, Parks and Recreation was working on possible alternatives to open on those dates. The pool will operate Mondays, noon to 5 p.m., Tuesdays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays, noon to 5 p.m., and Friday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Veterans Memorial Park Pool serves as a site for Aramark's free summer food service program. Weather permitting, free lunches will be served from Monday to Friday from noon to 1 p.m. on the days the pool is open with the exception of Aug. 12. The program will run through Aug. 16.
