SMITHFIELD – East Smithfield Public Library, 50 Esmond St., will host a reading of "The Palatine Wreck: The Legend of the New England Ghost Ship" on Thursday, June 13, at 7 p.m. Join author Jill Farinelli for a slide show, reading and book signing. BURRILLVILLE – The Burrillville Parks & Recreation Department will sponsor The Safe Sitter Program from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 20. The Program will be hosted by Hasbro Children's Hospital at the Burrillville Middle School Media Center, 2220 Broncos Highway, Harrisville. The one-day program serves as training for those who are currently working as sitters and those who may do so in the future. Lifesaving instruc- tion on preventing and managing injuries, infant/child CPR, caring for a choking infant or child, and rescue breathing is combined with tips on managing difficult behavior and other problems faced by sitters or siblings. The program cost is $50 and is open to ages 11-14. This fee includes the "Safe Sitter Manual." Pre-registration is required and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. More than 300 works of art were displayed, including paint- ings, photography, ceramics and "Living Art," in which students turned themselves into works of art based on famous painters. KOURTNEY PRETE, a 10th- grader at the school, was influ- enced by Vincent van Gogh and so she dresses as a sunflower and stands in front of a picture she created, both inspired by van Gogh's "Sunflowers."
