While attending SHS, Rees achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, is a member of the National Honor Society, played football and tennis, and went on a mission to Haiti with Chepachet Union Church. He said he achieved success through the enjoyment of learning. "I never really intended to be top of the class. I like to learn. I don't go for the grade. I go with the mastery of the material," Rees said. Full of school spirit, Rees said he will miss the high school building along with the people inside. "I have a lot of school pride," Rees said. He said his best experience at SHS was co-hosting the fashion show, where he got to dance and goof around with his classmates one last time before graduation. Rees said he plans to "take a load off" this sum- mer to get mentally prepared for college. BREEZE PHOTO BY JACQUELYN MOOREHEAD Detour updates on Route 6 construction SCITUATE – The Rhode Island Department of Transportation announced last-minute changes to the detours around the month-long Route 6 project that began on June 2. For the westbound route day and night, Route 6 traffic will be diverted up Route 101 to Route 102, then down Route 102 south to reconnect with Route 6 near the Dunkin' on Chopmist Hill Road. For eastbound traffic at night, vehi- cles traveling east on Route 6, start- ing on June 6, will be diverted on Route 102 and Route 101 east, and reconnect with Route 6 near Elmdale Road. Daytime eastbound traffic will not be affected by the detour. The $8.1 million project includes resurfacing, striping, signaling, guard- rail and stormwater improvements for a section of Route 6. The project is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2019. Work will be done from Sunday to Thursday nights from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. The detour route map is avail- able at www.ridot.net/detourmaps .
