22 THE VALLEY MAY 23-29, 2019 | VALLEY BREEZE | CUMBERLAND LINCOLN EDITION Blackstone Valley Prevention Coalition seeks proposals The Woonsocket Prevention Coalition, doing business as the Blackstone Valley Prevention Coalition, a nonprofit organization with a mission "to develop, implement and advocate for effec- tive, community-based prevention initiatives," seeks providers of services within the region to support statewide efforts to reduce opioid use and overdose, through a competitive request for pro- posal process. The WPC/BVPC encompasses the towns of Burrillville, Central Falls, Cumberland, Lincoln, North Smithfield and the cities of Pawtucket and Woonsocket. Efforts should address the areas of prevention, recovery and rescue, with the com- bined long term goal to reduce opioid overdose, with an intermediate outcome of reducing past 30-day use of opioids within the region. Applicants must indicate under which of the areas of focus their proposed activities and requested funding fall. Applicants should have experience in working with the target population proposed and serving the towns and cities above. Applicants are encour- aged to submit a proposal as an individual organi- zation, or as a joint effort of multiple organizations carrying out complimentary opportunities. Proposals will be due on May 29, at 4 p.m., at the BVPC, 169 Main St., second floor, Woonsocket. Proposals will be considered with budgets in the range of $10,000 to $25,000. Grivers wins Cumberland/Lincoln Lions Club service award CUMBERLAND – At their June monthly meet- ing, the Cumberland/Lincoln Lions Club presented longtime member Margaret "Gidget" Grivers with a Melvin Jones Fellowship. The fellowship is awarded when a club makes a donation to the Lions Club International Foundation in the individual's name to recognize exceptional service to the community and being an exemplar of Lionism. Besides being a past president of the club, Grivers has worked every year for the past 13 years to arrange for the club's Christmas Party at the Cumberland Boys & Girls Club. All of the funds for the event are raised by Grivers through fundraisers like bus trips to New York. The Melvin Jones Fellowship is named after a man who was instrumental in the founding of Lions Club International on June 7, 1917.
