10 SPORTS & RECREATION MAY 22-28, 2019 | VALLEY BREEZE | PAWTUCKET EDITION Lions grab rematch with SRA spikers Division III rivals enter final week of season tied for first place with 11-2 records PAWTUCKET – It looks like the St. Raphael Academy and Lincoln High boys' vol- leyball teams will be going down to the wire for the Division III regular-season championship. Six days after watching a 2-0 lead evaporate in a 3-2 loss on its home court to the Saints that snapped an eight- match win streak, the Lions came back last Wednesday to topple the Saints in their gym by shaking off a slow start to net a 3-2 victory. Both teams entered Tuesday night's league action with 11-2 records – each team's other loss was to Shea last month – and three matches left in the regular season before the D-III playoffs begin. The Saints, who will visit RIIL newcomer Times2 Academy tonight in Providence at 6:30 p.m., will face Johnston and Scituate in their final two matches next week. "We have to finish out strong," first-year SRA head coach Cory Linhares said. "But I like where we're at right now." In last week's showdown, the Saints had taken the first set, 25-12, and brought that momentum into the start of the second set, but the Lions found their way back to win, 25-20. The last three sets were exciting ones, with Lincoln grabbing a 25-21 win in the third, the Saints winning the fourth by a 26-24 score, and the Lions taking the deciding set, 15-10. The third set was close throughout, but after the Saints got a big block to tie the set at 19-19, the Lions came back with the next five points. But the fourth set was a different story for the Lions, as the Saints, who were down 23-18, came all the way back to take their 26-24 win. "We love making things hard on ourselves," Linhares added. "We were up in the first (set) and beat them pretty good, and then we got beat up pretty good in the second and third sets. The resilience to pick up the fourth set, I knew our guys had that. We had the toughness to pull it out. I wasn't too worried."
