VALLEY BREEZE LIVING EDITION | MAY 9-15, 2019 ENTERTAINMENT 5 BRT presents Haley Richardson and Quinn Bachand Saturday CUMBERLAND – Blackstone River Theatre, 549 Broad St., will present Irish fiddler Haley Richardson and guitarist Quinn Bachand on Saturday, May 11, at 8 p.m. Before the age of 12, Richardson and Bachand were each touring with some of the leading artists in the Celtic music world, winning awards and recognition nationally and internation- ally. They bring a passionate, youthful energy to the Irish fiddle tradition. The two have just released a new duo CD project, "When the Wind Blows High and Clear," on May 1. Richardson began making her mark in the Irish music world when she won the All Ireland qualifier in the under-12 age category at only 6 years old. Since then she has amassed a long list of accomplishments and performed across North America, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. She is the 2018 Fiddler of Dooney, 2013 All Ireland U12 Champion in both fiddle and fiddle slow airs, and 2017 All Ireland U15 Champion in fiddle slow airs. In addition to multiple All Ireland medals, she is a nine-time Mid-Atlantic Fleadh Champion. Bachand's multi-instrumentation compliments Richardson's fiddling. Although Bachand plays a range of styles that include jazz and bluegrass, it is his talents in the world of Celtic music that have drawn the most atten- tion, according to event organizers. A Berklee College of Music alumni and Presidential Scholar, Bachand has also toured internationally with well-known musicians including Canadian fiddling icons Ashley MacIsaac and Natalie MacMaster. Bachand is also a member of the Jeremy Kittel Band. Admission is $16 in advance, $18 on the day of the show. For reservations, call 401-725-9272. Irish fiddler HALEY RICHARDSON and guitarist Quinn Bachand will per- form on Saturday, May 11, at 8 p.m., at Blackstone River Theatre, 549 Broad St., Cumberland. Burbage Theatre's 'Polaroid Stories' is a modern-day myth PAWTUCKET – The Burbage Theatre Company presents the sixth and final production of their eighth season with the Rhode Island pre- miere of "Polaroid Stories ," run- ning through May 19 at TEN31 Productions, 249 Roosevelt Ave. "Polaroid Stories " is written by Naomi Iizuka and directed by Kate Kataja . "The play is the most chal- lenging offering we've ever served up to our audience, and we have the perfect artistic team to do it, " says artistic director Jeff Church. " Polaroid Stories" takes place on an abandoned pier on the outer- most edge of a city, a way-stop for dreamers, dealers and desperadoes, a no-man's land where runaways seek camaraderie, refuge and escape. According to a press release, Iizuka interviewed the impover- ished, the addicted, the confused and disillusioned, and superim- posed their trials onto the stories of Ovid's "Metamorphoses," creating a new American myth . "'Polaroid Stories' is a visceral blend of classical mythology and real life stories told by street kids that journeys into a dangerous world where myth-making fulfills a fierce need for transcendence, where storytelling has the power to transform a reality in which char- acters' lives are continually threat- ened, devalued and effaced." "Polaroid Stories" conveys a whirlwind of psychic disturbance, confusion and longing: "Like their mythic counterparts, these modern- day mortals are engulfed by needs that burn and consume. Their lan- guage mixes poetry and profanity, imbuing the play with lyricism and great theatrical force," the press release states. Tickets are $25 general admission and $15 for students. High school students receive free admission to any performance that isn't sold out.
