North Smithfield Blackstone and Woonsocket Edition Sports & Recreation @ MAY 9-15, 2019 WOONSOCKET – When the Mount Saint Charles Academy base- ball team stumbled out of the gates last month and started its season with a 3-4 record, some folks across the Division II landscape were surprised, especially since Mount was returning a veteran club that graduated just one player. But since then, the Mounties have righted their ship and strung together five straight victories, including a big one on Monday afternoon when they defeated always-tough Scituate and its ace pitcher, Wheaton College-bound Max Pierce, 5-2. Mount climbs back into Div. II-B race Five-game win streak puts MSC baseball team 1 1/2 games behind division leaders By ERIC BENEVIDES Valley Breeze Sports Editor Fresh off a four-hit, 14-strikeout per- formance against North Providence, Mount Saint Charles senior pitcher ALEX GONFRADE turned in another superb outing in Monday's 5-2 victory over Scituate. In six innings of work, he struck out five bat- ters and allowed five hits, three walks, and a sixth-inning run.
