NORTH SMITHFIELD BLACKSTONE WOONSOCKET EDITION | VALLEY BREEZE | MAY 9-15, 2019 WOONSOCKET 15 Mount holding scholarship auditions for new string program WOONSOCKET – Mount Saint Charles Academy will hold auditions for Merit Scholarships in its new string music program on Tuesday, May 14 and Wednesday, May 15 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the school music room. Mount is located at 800 Logee St. The string program admits students in grades 6-12. Students will be asked to play a prepared solo and two scales of their choice. Students who would like to audition for schol- arships should contact Music Director Marc Blanchette at to set up an audition time. Set to launch in September 2019, the string program is a partnership between Mount and the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra and Music School. Mount is one of only a handful of Rhode Island schools to offer a full string music program. String program students will receive daily instruction from Mount faculty and mas- ter lessons and workshops by Philharmonic musicians. The Mount instrumental music faculty includes Blanchette, recipient of the Rhode Island Music Educator Association Meritorious Service Award and newly hired String Music Program Director Brian Rowe. Students will also have opportunities to attend R.I. Philharmonic Orchestra rehearsals and play alongside members of the Philharmonic Orchestra in special perfor- mances.
