10 SENIOR LIVING GUIDE MAY 9-15, 2019 | THE VALLEY BREEZE SENIOR LIVING | LIVING ARRANGEMENTS These senior-friendly neigh- borhoods are different from assisted living facilities as people live without any form of medical assistance. Much like a typical community, there are different styles of homes and the options to rent or own. The main benefit to a senior moving to an indepen- dent living community is the comradery with others of sim- ilar ages. AMENITIES Depending on your loca- tion, you may find communi- ties that offer incredible ame- nities like golf courses, health care centers and an on-site fit- ness center. If you feel like the facilities in your area are lack- ing enticing features, consider packing up and relocating to a place where you can enjoy retirement. Take the time to research different communi- ties and document the advan- tages and disadvantages you notice. Once you have a list compiled of a few different neighborhoods, weigh the pros and cons before jumping into a decision. CONTINUING CARE Another great benefit for independent living communi- ties is the option for continu- ing care. While you may be in great health now, what would happen if you require medical assistance down the road? Most neighborhoods already have on-site caregivers avail- able. You may have to pay up front for continuing care ser- vices. Ask about the initial fee and ensure it will be used to cover special care when and if it is needed. QUESTIONS TO ASK You likely have a list of inquiries to make before meeting with a representative of an independent living com- munity. Here are a few exam- ples: • What is the policy on chil- dren staying overnight in the community? • Are pets allowed? • What fees are paid month- ly and annually? • What other charges should you expect? M aking the decision to sell the family home is often met with hesitation from seniors. It's hard to leave behind the home where you created many memories with your loved ones. However, if you have accepted that the property is too much to manage, relocating to an independent living community is worth considering. © ADOBE STOCK Independent Living Facilities Content Produced by Green Shoot Media. © 2019 Independent Living Facilities Let Us Help You Make Healthy Choices Check out our Bulk Herbs, Teas and Spices Hemp/CDB Oil and Local Honey Whole food vitamins, herbal and homeopathic remedies, allergy & pain relief products and more Massage Therapy, Reiki, Reflexology, Homeopathic Consultations Yoga & Tai Chi Classes Health, Energy & Spiritual Classes 1099 Mendon Road, Cumberland, RI (401)305-3585 Tues. - Thurs. 11 a.m.-6:30 p.m.; Fri. 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m.; Sat. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Serving the community for more than 13 years See our website for a list of classes and events www.its-my-health.com 1894 Smith Street, North Providence, RI 02911 Phone: 401-353-9090 Toll-Free: 1-877-762-9191 Fax: 401-353-1919 www.alphasurgical.com Most insurance accepted Open to the Public "Free Delivery" Alpha Surgical, Inc.
