Michael O'Reilly, of Cumberland, died peacefully March 25 at Hope Hospice Providence, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Springfield, Mass., he was the son of the late Robert O'Reilly and the late Alice (Preston) O'Reilly of Providence and Cumberland. He is predeceased by his brother, Dennis (Sharon Paulin), his sister Kathleen Passarelli and nephew Joshua O'Reilly. Mike worked in trucking admin- istration for 25 years for Lily Transportation, Coles-Viking, Mr. Nick's, and Old Dominion. In retirement, he was a Providence Journal carrier with a large route and often left inspiring notes for his customers. He also worked security for G4S Security. Michael took special pride in the talents of his children and grand- children. He enjoyed painting landscapes of Cape Cod and his extended family have many of his paintings hanging in their homes. He spent many summers in Onset, Mass., on the beach with his wife and fishing with his sons. His gar- dens displayed his love of color and flowers. Michael leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Paula (Landry) O'Reilly; sons Michael, (Heather), David, (partner Dawn), Jeffrey, (partner Billy), and daughter, Tracy (David Purvis). His beloved grandchildren Michael, Hannah, Nathaniel and Jacob. He also leaves a brother, John O'Reilly (Rita), of Coventry, a sister, Dorothea Maynard (Russell), of Swansea, Mass. The funeral and burial were pri- vate. Peter Ross, 73, of Cumberland, for- merly of Brookline, Mass., and Belmont, Mass., passed away March 25. He was for nearly 20 years a well-known voice to Boston as an announcer for classical radio sta- tion WCRB. He began his sec- ond career working with Fidelity Investments in 1995, where he remained until his retirement in 2015. Through it all, he was a dedicated musician, staying deeply enmeshed in Boston's classical and amateur music communities after leav- ing the air and serving as concert announcer for several community bands and at the annual Boston Festival of Bands held each June at Faneuil Hall. He was particularly involved with the Metropolitan Wind Symphony, where he per- formed as the voice and concert announcer for more than 20 years and also served as a member of the ensemble's board. He was a 1963 graduate of Brookline High School and a 1968 graduate of Boston University. He is survived by his brother; his wife, Marilyn; and his daughter, Katherine, son-in-law, Matthew, and beloved grandchildren Miranda and Ethan, to whom he was utterly devoted and by whom he was utterly smitten. A memorial reception will be held later in April. In lieu of flow- ers, donations may be made to The Metropolitan Wind Symphony, the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras, or any local music edu- cation program or initiative in your community that serves to teach and inspire the next generation of musi- cians.
