4 ENTERTAINMENT MARCH 28-APRIL 3, 2019 | VALLEY BREEZE LIVING EDITION Hearthside Museum opens season with exhibit on the evolution of weddings LINCOLN – Lincoln's Hearthside House Museum on Great Road kicks off its 2019 season with the return of its beloved exhibit Something Old, Something New: The Evolution of Wedding Fashions & Traditions on Sunday, March 31, from 1 to 4 p.m. Featuring over 40 wedding dresses dating from the 1860s to the 1990s, this exhibit looks at the evolution of wedding fashion as well as marriage traditions for more than a century. Guides dressed in period attire will help to guide visitors through the ages as they tour the expansive Hearthside House Museum's two floors during this special exhibit. The displays of wedding fashions, facts and memo- rabilia are set among a backdrop of the home's 10 fireplace mantels, all beautifully decorated with spring flow- ers, while traditional wedding music is heard in the background. In addition to the distinctive fash- ion trends of each era, there will be information pertaining to cake styles, receptions, and honeymoons from each decade. A plethora of artifacts will be on display relating to the superstitions and nuptial celebrations, such as bridal photographs, toasting glasses, garters, and elaborate mar- riage certificates spanning over 100 years. Family traditions are honored with some of the dresses having been worn by two generations of the fam- ily, while others include both a moth- er's and daughter's dresses displayed together. The exhibit debuts to the public on Sunday, March 31, and will also be open on Saturday, April 6; Sunday, April 7; and Saturday, April 13, from 1 to 4 p.m., with the last admission one hour before closing. General admission is $10 for adults and $5 for youth 10-17, and free for members of Friends of Hearthside. Payment at the door, cash preferred.
