16 SPORTS & RECREATION MARCH 28-APRIL 3, 2019 | VALLEY BREEZE | NORTH SMITHFIELD BLACKSTONE WOONSOCKET Former Mount Saint Charles Academy three-sport star JORDAN MCCOMB, who is a senior midfielder on the Lasell College wom- en's lacrosse team in Newton, Mass., became the ninth player in the pro- gram's history to score 100 career goals on Thursday, March 14, when she scored seven times in the Lasers' 20-12 victory over Nichols College. McComb nets 100th career goal at Lasell NEWTON, Mass. – Former Mount Saint Charles Academy lacrosse standouts Jordan McComb and Morgan Choquet, who are members of the Lasell College women's team, were recently named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Lacrosse Player and Goalie of the Week. McComb, who is a senior mid- fielder for the Lasers, recorded 16 goals and three assists during a three-win week for Lasell, while also collecting 13 ground balls, 14 draw controls, and six caused turnovers. She became the ninth player in the program's history to score 100 career goals when she scored seven times in a 20-12 victory over Nichols College, and she tallied six goals two days later to help Lasell post a 15-8 victory over Colby- Sawyer in its GNAC opener. After scoring 53 goals her junior year, McComb now has 23 goals this season in helping the Lasers break out to a 5-1 start. She is ranked second in the GNAC in goals and third in points. She also leads the GNAC with 26 ground balls and ranks sixth in the confer- ence with 21 draw controls and nine caused turnovers. McComb, who graduated from Mount in 2015, was an All- Division girls' hockey, volleyball, and lacrosse player. As for Choquet, who is a junior goalie and a 2016 graduate of Mount, she posted a 9.32 goals against average, a 50.9 save per- centage, and 28 saves during the three-win week. She made 10 saves in a 10-9 overtime victory over Washington & Jefferson on March 12, and stopped 11 shots in Lasell's GNAC win over Colby- Sawyer. Former MSC lacrosse teammates receive GNAC weekly honors Several "shooting stars" from the North Smithfield area (Frehill Council) recently competed at the annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw State Championships, which were held on March 24 at Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick. Each of these individuals won their local competition for their age group held this past December.
