12 2019 HEALTH & WELLNESS GUIDE | THE VALLEY BREEZE Peace of mind. Isn't that really what you're looking for when a member of your family needs Assisted Living or Skilled Nursing Services? Isn't that what a couple is searching for when they decide "Maybe it's time for a little help with our daily lives"? What is it that makes The Villa at Saint An- toine "The ultimate in assisted living?" What do they do so well to deliver the peace of mind an older couple or family is searching for? It's the "Continuum of Care," according to Jacquelyn Woznicki, Executive Director of the Saint Antoine Community, which includes not only The Villa but also the Saint Antoine Resi- dence for skilled nursing and rehabilitative care. Both facilities are on quiet Mendon Road/Rhodes Avenue in North Smithfield, only a few feet from one another. This "continuum," says Woznic- ki, allows for close contact between couples who may become separated over time. As one continues to live in the Villa, and the other needs more skilled care, the close proximity makes keeping them together seamless and easy. Of course, Villa residents are "first in line" should skilled or rehab care at Saint Antoine Residence be needed. "This continuum and closeness bring many married couples, as well as siblings, together at The Villa," says Tammy Summiel, Administrator for the Villa. "When someday more help is need- ed, the family stays close. Any transportation problems are eliminated. We're here for them." Both The Villa and Saint Antoine Residence are Ministries of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence. There is Mass daily in both facilities, and communion is offered daily to residents cared for in the skilled nursing area who cannot attend Mass. Assisted living is all-inclusive, according to Summiel. Provided for guests are services including three daily meals in an elegant dining room, some personal care and aid, wellness and fitness programs, wi-fi and cable, laundry and housekeeping services, medicine administration, and transportation coordination. Also important for peace of mind, says Sum- miel, is billing. "Residents and families know the bill every month. There are no surprises," she says, noting some assisted living centers might offer a lower base cost, but then surprise fam- ilies with costly, unexpected monthly add-ons. "At The Villa," says Summiel, "you know what your stay will cost, in full, before you move in." Both The Villa and Residence offer other amenities, too. For those looking for short-term rehabilitation, it's nice to spend time on "Easy Street," the rehab center that's built for those transitioning from hospital to home. This one- of-a kind experience offers real-life modules including apartments, city curbing, and ATM and automobiles for real-life practice. Top-notch therapists and nursing staff live the motto: "To serve is our mission. To love is our tradition." There is even a small memory care unit in The Villa for those who may be having the beginnings of dementia or forgetfulness, but still are able to live independently, with 24-hour supervision and aid. Another offering: Respite Care, where an elderly loved one can live at the Villa for a two- week or longer period while family caretakers vacation or travel. Left, between hospital and home, there's St. Antoine's "Easy Street" rehabilitation center in the Residence to help get you on your feet more quickly.
