CUMBERLAND LINCOLN EDITION | VALLEY BREEZE | FEBRUARY 7-13, 2019 CUMBERLAND / LINCOLN 15 Author hopes book helps others shed unwanted weight CUMBERLAND – Cumberland resident Donna Dube hopes to inspire and moti- vate people to reverse the impact of being overweight through her new self-published book, "A Timekeeper's Guide to Weight Loss: Living an Intermittent Fasting Lifestyle, Watching When You Eat, Not What You Eat." Dube shares her journey and the results of the dieting concept called intermittent fasting. "This is not a diet, this is a life- style," she said. "Diets have a beginning and an end. People will regain what they lost and then some ... This is the way I will eat for the rest of my life." Dube said she took action to lose unwanted body weight after someone snapped an unflattering photo of her during a vacation two years ago. As a registered nurse, Dube began to research ways to lose weight. It was then that she dis- covered intermittent fasting, an eating pattern where someone eats only within a certain period of time and fasts for the rest. The diet doesn't specify which foods to eat, but when to eat them. In April 2017, she began fasting for 16 hours each day and eating for eight. The window to eat opened at noon. Eventually, Dube was fasting for 23 hours each day. Her goal was to drop 100 pounds in two years, but she lost the weight in one. She calls intermittent fasting "a health plan with a side of weight loss." Dube spoke to her medical pro- vider about the plan, and said he was supportive. She recommends that any lifestyle changes be dis- cussed with a qualified medical provider, a disclaimer mentioned frequently in her book. Dube hopes the book motivates people who feel they are to blame for their struggles with weight.
